Loving The Way Jesus Loves,
This review is from: Loving the Way Jesus Loves (Paperback)One of the most popular bible verses in all of the Bible is located in 1 Corinthians 13. My wife and I had it read during our wedding and many others have done likewise. It is a great passage, summarizing love in the way that the Bible, and most specifically, Jesus views love. It is not entireley meant for a wedding, but rather as an encouragement by Paul, the apostle, to the church in Corinth to love as Jesus loves.
This book is not a commentary, but it is a great resource to have as you study and read through 1 Corinthians 13. Ryken does a great job at expositing the text in its original context. He also does a marvelous job at applying the text to the lives of Jesus' followers.
In reading the book, Ryken takes each phrase of 1 Corinthians 13 in its original context, gives a few explanations and examples of each meaning in its original language to illustrate its meaning. With this as a foundation, Ryken takes each phrase and gives an example from the life and ministry of Jesus himself to demonstrate what this love is to look like.
This book is of course perfect for those getting married. There is no greater relationship to manifest the love of Jesus to another than in a marriage relationship. This book is also great for believer and non-believer. Love sums up the greatest and the second greatest commandment. We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves and who greater could we have to follow than Jesus. To love like Jesus is the perfect way to love and Ryken does a great job at explaining and encouraging believers to do so.
