Retro label maker perfect for occasional household use,
This review is from: DYMO 12966 Mechanical Embosser with Tape (Electronics)
This Dymo Express Pro label maker was affordable and does what I expected it to, so I'm satisfied. I prefer this old-school retro label maker style, over the newer white tape, black lettering labels commonly used in offices, etc. For me, there's no need for ultra high-tech keypads, digital readouts & other bells and whistles when all I need is an occasional label for the home or garage. The quality on this item seems rugged and the design is relatively comfortable and sleek. My only disappointment is that there is no ampersand ( & ) character, but fortunately I and most people know how to spell the word "AND".

I've had a former model of this for 40 years, for my thousands of video tapes which I bought from Lamston's drug store chain in Manhattan, moved and can't find it, but have tons of the tape refills and they are STILL sticking on all those tapes for 4 decades lol [forgot if you're the one about not sticking] but a 'slash' or 'dash' can certainly sub for the & sign. Yes, I just got up and looked on my library shelves and labels DO have the -, the /, and periods. I never used the "&" sign so don't know but the "/ " slash sufficed for that. Now I'm hoping this newer version of the machine has those because the AND is too long on the small with of videio tapes. I use the black tape with white embossing, on the solid black sides of my recording tapes so it's all in unison, and so beautiful in my libraries.... so neat looking in my black & white apartment lol So unlike my thousands of book jackets, my tapes are all one color. Gorgeous, people gasp when walking in. My shelves and back wall are also black so it looks so professional, but I'm a decorator just giving a tip. And again.... these tape refulls from back then last forever, and stick forever, the embossing NEVER wears out or fades either. Just hope all these new versions of machine AND the embossing tape are as great quality.... though I won't need the refull tapes for a very long time, I always stock up on things and did years ago and so glad when things were cheaper. But I called the company and asked first, if my 1/8" 12 feet long refills will FIT in this version of machine and she said yes. Some day my original MACHINE with the red handle will turn up too [had 200 boxes to unpack] and I'll be thrilled just to see it again even after buying this one with the wheel too. Oh, also wondering since this is shown with a RED tape inside, therefore I'll have to take that out and replace with my black tape immediately, if it's easy to do so? Did yours come with the RED tape in there? Suprised there's no tape color choice when buying, so that roll of tape it comes with, will go to waste for me if RED. Though before removing the red tape, I'll label all my red kitchen Canisters with it. That will be pretty and unobtrusive with only the white embossing showing and not the red tape against red canisters, or I can even put the labels on the back turned against the wall. Like you, I don't need those big expensive contrived ones. This has always been fabulous and take seconds to stamp out each letter / number / sentence, just hoping the newer model is AS good.
