1.0 out of 5 stars An "indigo","old soul/scholar&artisan" saying BAD FRUIT ?, April 30, 2002
This review is from: Messages from Michael (Mass Market Paperback)
A review for a book such as this cannot be complete without including the gist of one's personal exchange and experience WITH the teaching itself. The "effectiveness" of aiding improvement of one's life first through deeper understanding: is that not the point of books such as these in determining their value?
I was first exposed to the Michael metaphysical model of the universe when I was 11 reading michael gemstone dictionary about metaphysical properties of stones. However, it was ten years later that I began seeking out more information on the teaching itself. Over those next few years, I read all of the michael books and became completely absorbed into the channeled teaching quite naturally. I "automatically" applied it to my daily life as so many things began to "make sense" with the NEW explanations offered by this intricate metaphysical framework. I grew very hungry for more and more of it. My perception of the world had changed and my sense of what and why in terms of my life had become - quite frankly - unusual and bizarre. Any comment I'd make in any normal conversation which reflected the system really required a bunch of bizarre discourse in order to explain my response. This odd perception of mine was direct from the metaphysical system channeled from the entity who wants to be called "michael": an alleged collection of souls from a plane higher than ours, who had already cycled through their series of lifetimes; and as a collective had, in its spare "time", some lovely "theories" and "lessons" about the structure of spiritual existence to offer us more open-minded and oddball types struggling through the physical plane. *Awww*, how "thoughtful" to consider us weebles in the spiritual "evolutionary" backwash, eh?
Within those years of thoroughly enjoying the teaching in my reading and contemplation of it, I watched my life crumble. Upon analysis, examining its subtle yet deep influence on my perceptions and decision-making, it became clear that I have only experienced bad fruit directly from the michael teaching. After giving up the course in miracles game after experience proved its utter falsehood completely, and next this (years later) with michael, I decided to steer clear from anything "channeled" and finally take seriously the warning of false prophets, "christs", and "other"/"new" gospels.
The michael teaching was only one of a plethora new age ideas nestled comfortably together that I entertained and practiced for years. Peers and mentors used to "marvel" at my "wisdom" and "insights". But here I am, now telling others this: it's NOT "all that". I was fooled by the elegant and "freeing" appeals to my intelligence, wasting time with teachings like this that obscure truth through its provocative, theoretical layering. Like other pseudometaphysical hot topics, this mental deception appeals most to highly intelligent and deep-thinking types because it sends your abstraction-loving mind reeling. If one slices enough facets into a dazzling model such as this, it ultimately becomes a mere tool for reflecting one's most intrinsic, selfish desires that all humans naturally have and yearn to justify and rationalize. Choking on an excess of grey, michael mentally seduced me into my own waking hell.
Incidentally, when I decided to abandon the whole system, it surprisingly took three months to stop thinking "this way".
I don't expect my testimony alone to convince anyone; but, I still must share it.
I am now an ex-new ager.

I have not read the book. So I was looking for comments to get a better idea.
You have spent so much to invalidate this teaching, but you have failed why this has not worked for you really.
It reads as you had used this teaching as a cruch and a scape route from your reality. And since the cruch looked unacceptable with others.
You turned paralized and not having legs to stand on. So you abandened to a new reality for now . . .

You remained unspecific throughout this review, particularly about whatever life events resulted in your rejection of Micheal teachings. It seems to me that when your 'life fell apart', these 'teachings' which you held as universal truths did not hold water. You were then understandably disappointed. Life is certainly not so simplistic that the answers to it can be found in a book; these ideas are just more rocks to add to the tumbler. I think the authors of Micheal books are usually quite careful to mention this. Life is painful, and these concepts seem to have failed in helping you through hard times.

this is pitiful, a reader who's blaming a book for the misery in his life! Give me a brake, it's as narrow-minded as the ex=premies that blame their ex-guru for their foibles. The truth is, we'rer all responsible for our lives, and we don't get to farm that out to others...I find the information from Michael to be first-rate, but it's still my life to live, of course any tru seeker would see through this flawed review, grow-up for heaven's sake!

I think your first mistake was using the "Michael teachings" as gospel; to base your entire life around them. As others here noted, you seemed to use it as a crutch, or escape. Your eventual rejection of the book is more a projection of yourself: you can't "reject" yourself though, so the book will do.

Your second mistake was wasting your admittedly good prose with a horribly pretentious and negative review.
