An unexpected pleasure,

This novella is, I think, early work, but it is nevertheless thoroughly enjoyable. It would fall into a Sci-Fi category, not fantasy. (Except I think that it's all fantasy -- it's just set in the future, and Somewhere Else, and what might be called magic in other stories is dropped into a "black box" and called science, just like Arthur Clarke recommended.) Anyway, I enjoyed the characters, and the story. Two very young people are put into a very difficult situation. One works very hard, and brilliantly, to escape this dilemma, the other works just as hard, just as intelligently, to make the best of it. Unfortunately, these two approaches aren't particularly compatible, and damage is done. The story is about how, after many years, the situation finally comes to a head, and is resolved. I enjoyed it very much, and I'm glad I bought it.
