A well-researched book on Diva Streisand's early career.,

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This book was sent to me by Amazon as one of the titles in their Vine Reviewer program. The copy which arrived was an "Advance Reading Copy" - which is an uncorrected proof and has no Index. The ARC is marked with a publication date of November 6, 2012 but since Amazon lists the book on the Amazon site as being "to be released on September 13, 2012" they must have moved it up.
The author states in his introduction that, when the project - covering Streisand's early career from 1960 to 1964 - was first proposed by his Editor, he was not a Streisand fan, and knew little about her, but he became one as he did his research. Each of the 17 chapters covers a "season" for each of the four years with chapters titled "Winter 1960", "Spring 1960" and so on. There are two sections containing a total of 22 pages of photos (in black and white in the ARC, which I'm guessing will be the case in the final version).
Author Mann did much of his research at the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library looking at correspondence from the private archives of Bob Fosse and and Jerome Robbins. 41 of the 547 pages consist of footnotes. So, while this is biography to be read by fans and admires, it is also a documented reference book.
I enjoyed learning about Streisand's early career. (I remember seeing her on the Tonight Show early on. The book will certainly be a must for her fans.
I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.
