Good text on Cyril's Deification and Theology,
This review is from: The Appropriation of Divine Life in Cyril of Alexandria (Oxford Theology and Religion Monographs) (Hardcover)
This is a good book on Cyril's doctrine of deification and his theology in general. One of its strong points is its analysis of major portions of Cyrillian text and commentaries on passages in scripture. Keating does attack the belief that Cyril maybe held to a spiritual view of the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. I only gave it 4 stars because the structure of the text makes it seem like an overview of text by Cyril instead of an interpretation of Cyril's theology. And one can get the impression that it might have been better at points just to know what to read of Cyril and then to have gone to the primay source. Instead one is given a summary of Cyril when one could have went ot the source and learned the same information just as quickly. overlal good text though.

John Philoponus says:
Thanks for a skillful concise review. Keating is right in his defense of Cyril teaching on the real communion of Christ in the Eucharist. His interpretation of Cyril soteriology is right, who taught Theosis biblically as partaking of the divine nature. I aprecciate the fresh neopatristic approach of rediscovering this cornerstone of the Alexandrine doctrine on soteriology; salvation by Grace in communion, together with Stephen Finlan, and Stephen Davis.
