5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing set, November 8, 2011
This review is from: Sony BRAVIA XBR65HX929 65-Inch 1080p 3D Local-Dimming LED HDTV with Built-in WiFi, Black (2011 Model) (Electronics)
This is truly one of the top two sets currently available. Bright, great black levels. Excellent color, very adjustable. Earlier HX929 sets had issues with "creases" in the picture edges which do not appear here. I do not see any blooming either. Off axis quality drops as with all LCD direct view sets, but a little sooner than most. Not a problem for most reasonable viewing positions. Stand is solid unlike the 55. Highly recommended!

What is the other top set? Its so hard to figure out which are the highest quality sets these days - so many reviews take price into account (and rightfully so) but many people (like myself) want to know what the current "reference" is.

Thanks!

Currently, Nov. 2011, the XBR**HX929 and Sharp Elite have a majority consensus of top LCD consumer TV performance. They are very close. Do not discount your own personal preferences as another set may suit your tastes better. Panasonic and Samsung both make nice sets. Vizio is wonderful for the price, but their service reputation worries me.

LA Bill, thanks for the review, it is very helpful. Have you watched any sports on the set yet? Does it handle fast motion well without blur? Also have you played any video games on it? I have an older XBR 55 inch and it is fabulous so I would expect no less. I am very close to buying this set. Thanks in advance!

No set induced motion blur on sports or gaming. It even works well as a monitor for my W510 FHD laptop. Kids love it wih the PS3. It does have a gaming mode which is said to reduce lag time. I cannot tell the difference. 240hz real refresh time.

Seems like this sharp tv is really worth the price but I have my doubts about it being sturdy enough if I place it high up. I can't really afford to see this one break. Did you fix the TV to the wall? I would probably go for FlexiMounts to mount it. Check it out if you had a similar conern.

Its strange that you are commenting on this now. It has not been available for about three years. I still have mine and am completely satisfied with it. No degradation yet with heavy use. As far as mounts, worry about the mount not the monitor. It is perfectly suited for hanging and does not really weigh that much. Make sure you attach your wall mount into the wood studs, as you should for any monitor. An articulating mount will make it MUCH easier to get to the rear connections.
