2.0 out of 5 stars Works, but leaves an awful taste on your dishes!, August 29, 2011

This review is from: Grab Green Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Tangerine with Lemongrass, 24 Loads (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
After finding the liquid 7th Generation dishwashing detergent to be utterly useless, I decided to try out the Grabgreen Tangerine detergent in hopes of discovering a green detergent that actually works. I can say that this detergent does work quite well, however your dishes come out smelling of tangerines (not so bad) and tasting like bitter tangerine detergent! I've never used a dishwashing product that has left a smell on my dishes before (let alone a taste), and the flavor/smell will stick with your dishes until they are rinsed in water. I first discovered the taste issue when I had washed/sterilized my baby's teething toys and noticed they smelled, so I put one in my mouth to see if it had a taste, and boy was it nasty - not something I want my kid to ingest, I don't care if it's green or not. To make matters worse, I had to take all my cups and silverware and hand wash them so I could use them without the obnoxious smell and taste.

Amazon kindly refunded my order, and I am hopeful that the Grabgreen UNSCENTED dishwashing detergent will meet my expectations. Honestly, I am not sure how the other reviewers didn't have this problem, the odor is quite pungent!

**UPDATE** (12/29/11)

The unscented detergent is wonderful, no smells and it works perfectly. I'm here to reorder!

I agree. Love this detergent; it's the only green product I've used that works but I'm going with unscented next time, too, because I feel like my dishes taste like the detergent!

We ordered the Fig Leaf version and didn't have this issue, I wanted the Tangerine but they were out.
Thanks for your review, I'll stay away from the Tangerine, as far as the Fig Leaf goes, it has no taste or smell after the washer is done...but I'm thinking about going with free & clear version next time.

Actually, I'm here reading reviews on the Tangerine scented one, since the Thyme and Fig Leaf version left scent/flavor on our dishes -- I was hoping this scent did not. The Thyme/Fig scent is awesome -- fills the kitchen with a lovely fragrance (and I hate scented things like Febreeze, Plug-Ins, Glade). But even glass and ceramics retain a definite flowery odor/taste that persists long after the wash cycle (doesn't even wear off while dishes are hanging out in their cabinets waiting!). We tried an extended rinse and dry cycle, no difference. In any case, I'm ordering the Free & Clear version now. Thanks for the input.

Edited to add: We now buy the Free & Clear from GrabGreen, but somehow it doesn't work as well as the fragranced versions. There is obvious grime on the outside of glasses, not rinsing as clean. I don't really get why that would be, but everyone in the household has noticed this. We're putting up with it for now, but I wish these worked as well for us.

really glad that i read these comments before ordering.... i'm now ordering the unscented version. i liked the idea of tangerine and lemongrass, but not if it hangs around after it's not wanted any more... LOL

i rotate this with the costco cheapie detergent because this really DOES get the dishes cleaner (and the dishwasher itself, too) when i do a REALLY messy load. for regular loads, the cheapie is fine, although not green. wish i could afford to do EVERY load with the grabgreen, but at this point, that's just not within my budget. but, even using it a couple times a week is better than not at all...

Krobbin, perhaps you could increase your star rating? If the first variety you tried was a 2 and the free and clear sounds like a 5.......

Unless you want to taste your dishwasher detergent, do not buy the tangerine/lemongrass grab green product.
