A New Kind of Gaming for All Ages,
This review is from: Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures! (Video Game)
I never thought in a million years that I'd one day be playing XBox 360 with my 67 year old dad and mom, but that happened thanks to the Kinect.
PROS: I'd say this is a great game to have some people over and play some fun games together. My wife and parents aren't into video games, but they like the Kinect. As, do my 5 and 7 year old nephew and niece. The Kinect is a great piece of technology. It does a good job registering your body and responding to your voice. It really is an all ages type game that brings gaming back to the level of fun instead of serious. The game causes you to use your entire body which can get your heart going a little bit: jumping, moving left, right, and ducking. I've heard there is an upgrade due in the fall, that could make the resolution greater making the kinect better at registering your movements. We will see. I think there is some potential here, I just hope some developers comes out with some great games that make this worth having. Kinect Sports is a lot of fun, need more games like that.
CONS: This is not for the gamer who wants a challenging game for 30-40 hours. It's fun for a little while, but it seems once you master what the game is looking for, there isn't much challenge. Then, no one new will want to play against you. I just wonder how many work out, body motion sport games they can come out with.(I did think the same thing about the Wii when it first came out and it's still going strong) Since, there is a brief lag in most games it doesn't seem like any quick moving games will be successful due to potential frustration.
KINECT ADVENTURES (3 stars): The theme of this game is very kid-like. It's a good intro game that shows off what the kinect can do, but its very simple. The rafting game is the most fun, moving left and right and jumping to collect coins as your raft goes down a speeding river. I could've used another 6 courses of river rafting. Also, the Reflex Ridge challenge is fun with a friend, the sounds are hilarious and the pictures at the end of each event are fun. Rally Ball is good game that requires moving around and a lot of reaching to pound balls at moving boxes (like breakout). The 20,000 Leaks game is okay, but a bit simple, reach plug holes all around you. Space Pop is okay, nothing exciting, just flying up down left and right by flapping your arms to collect bubbles.
