I have to agree with you...
I found a lot of factual mistakes in the book... Basic things that the author(s) should have known. There were mistakes that could have been avoided by just looking at the blueprints/line drawings for the various Starships!
As it stands, I really wanted more emphasis on Classic Trek.
Let's face it -- as decent as some of the Next Gen Trek was the original show is the true icon and best-loved version in general.
TOS is also by the nature of the way it was rushed into production and written (haphazardly) the least well-documented Trek and most often contradictory with itself. It boggles the mind that the the original TOS Enteprise survived five years with ONE set of phaser banks and two torpedo bays mounted in the saucer! The Refit, by comparison, is a virtual battleship. Again, lack of consistency... But then again it's hard to believe that the Refit version is the same Ship, let alone the same Class!
