Wonderful items - Mount broke after several months :(,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motorola 89396N Window Mount for Motorola Droid A855 (Electronics)
I couldn't be more pleased with the items included in this set and I use them nearly every single day. However, after maybe 6 months the plastic wing-nut broke on the mounting arm and now you must use a small wrench or equivalent to adjust it if needed (metal bolt with molded plastic "ear" to enable adjustment). This is a real disappointment because I did not have the mount very long before it crapped out the way it did. I wasn't bent out of shape because the mount broke after a short time because we all know sometimes things just break and that's life. However, I was disappointed because Verizon wouldn't simply replace the mount. Aside from that it's a great little setup :)
The overall quality of everything is truly excellent but the plastic wing-nut "ear" just broke off in my hand. I have THREE of these mounts, one for my A855 Droid and two more for my Droid-X phones. Although the case portion the phone snaps into is different for each phone, the mount itself is identical to each other regardless of the phone model. It was smart of Motorola to manufacture this product this way, however out of three suction-cup mounting systems TWO of them have broken in the same place . . . the plastic molded wing-nut. After checking with other Droid users online in a Moto Droid forum it turns out a LOT of people have this specific problem with their mounts as well. And it always breaks in the same place . . . the wing-nut. And one of them broke upon the very FIRST use right out of the box! In this case it was a spare that had been sitting in the box at least six months and I had to use it only because the first wing-nut broke. So you can imagine my enthusiasm after the second one broke in the same place, all within a half-hour of each other!! So far the *third* mount wing-nut is intact and has not broken yet. But I already purchased a replacement all-metal wing nut from Home Depot for when it does.
This is indicative of a manufacturing issue rather than a mere isolated incident. I contacted the manufacturer but they wouldn't replace my two broken mounts, which is seriously disappointing. The only good thing about this is I am still able to use both broken mounts only because I replaced the original metal bolt with an all-metal wing nut from Home Depot. I simply brought the defective bolt in the store with me and matched it up with a wing-nut they carry and I was on my way in no time with a 100% all-metal wing nut setup :)
Good product that has a poorly made plastic-molded securing system.
