The 5 bonus tracks make this a 5 star album!,
This review is from: Strange Clouds (Audio CD)
First off, let me start by saying that I would recommend visiting your local Target if you wish to purchase this album. Amazon is charging more than twice what you would pay at Target. It is originally a $16.99 purchase for the album with the 5 extra tracks (2-disc set), however, today when I went to Target I saw this advertised for $9.99. Disclaimer: It was supposed to be $13.99, but it was marketed wrong and they allowed me to purchase the album for $9.99, but be prepared to pay the $13.99, most likely.
B.o.B. - Strange Clouds is a very good album even without the 5 extra tracks. In my opinion though the 5 extra tracks really do justice to this album, they are soulful and very well composed. I won't go into detail about each song, but I will say that if you buy the standard issue album you will miss out on some gems. I like all 5 bonus records, especially "What Are We Doin'", "Ms. Professional", and "MJ ft. Nelly". Amazon doesn't offer samples to these songs from what I've seen, so you may want to check Youtube to get an idea of what to expect. There is a live studio recording for What Are We Doin' on Youtube [...] and it is pretty amazing. The bonus track with Nelly, MJ, is excellent! Nelly has been missing from the rap game for some time and this could mark a tremendous return, I really love the record and Nelly spits napalm on the track.
As a whole, I love the album. It has a very different feel to it than most hip/hop music that is out there and I appreciate that. I am also a fan of what B.o.B. does on his mixtapes too, and I think it's pretty cool that most of them are free. The lyricism on this album is on par with his previous work and a lot of his mixtape work as well. If you've liked anything B.o.B. has done, commercially or on the underground, you will most likely appreciate this album. If I were to rate this album without the 5 extra records I would have to give it a 3.5 - 4.5 because it would depend on what aspect of B.o.B.'s talent and career you favor most. If you are like me and heard of him first through his mixtapes you will probably find this to be a little mediocre, but will still bump it. I've had it less than 24 hours and I've played it several times. It is has a great feel to it and it is music that won't leave you angry or too pumped up on adrenaline. It's actually pretty relaxing. In fact, I've been doing my marketing homework while listening to this and it doesn't impede my ability to complete my work at all, like my Slipknot music does (I get too hyped and adrenalized listening to Slipknot).
I hope that my review was helpful to you and if you decide to buy the deluxe edition of this album I think you will be pleased, and surprised by how good the extra songs are. Thanks for reading.
