1.0 out of 5 stars Still new and moldy smell, October 15, 2011
This review is from: LG WM2140CW 27 Front Load Washer with 3.5 cu. ft. Large Capacity
This machine is new. I used it 6 times in 3 weeks. I kept the door open when not in use. The 3rd load had bleach in it. Now the clothes smell moldy. The tech came out and said it was working fine and required the cleaning product with cleaning cycle every month, but said it is unusual for them to smell when they are so new, but said there is nothing wrong with the machine. Returning it.

What kind of detergent were you using with this?

The problem with any front load washer when the begin to smell is almost always related to fabric softner being used. Fabric softener like Downy is highly concentrated animal fat. This fat will cling and coat the inisde of the rubber door seal and after a short period of time will begin to smell terribly. The way to eliminate this is to stop using fabric softner and to run a package of Affresh through the hot wash cycle. Affresh is the product name and is available at your local Home Depot or Lowes store. They are tablets that you throw in to breakdown and strip that nasty fatty substance from inside the rubber door seal boot and flush it out with the rinse. You should do this periodically to keep the machine fresh.
