3.0 out of 5 stars Torn..., December 26, 2008

To all of you that have gotten the R2 and loved him. We are there with you.. to all of you that have gotten him and are pretty disappointed. We are there with you too. We got him as our gift to the kids from santa, since our Christmas was star wars themed and it seemed like this year was all about light sabers, darth vader cloaks and the elder siblings teaching the one year old to hum the darth vader march. (groans)

When we unpackaged him christmas eve. As set about testing him and enjoying him before wrapping him.. he worked great. He was an instant hit with my husband and I and we just KNEW our kids were going to love him.

Christmas morning was another story. R2 stopped responding to commands from my husband or I (we had a feeling that the prog within him wouldnt take the kids voices so when he didnt respond to them we didnt mind) his light was constantly red and the light beam light on. The command behave or reset didnt work to improve the mood. We'd ask him the do you remember and he would put himself into lazor tag mode. haha.

By that night r2's condition ended up being where he wouldnt move or wander, just stand there with a red light and do a continuous negative sounding chirp and shake his head to any request. Even the reset one.. so we just turned him off and put him up. We thought, perhaps it was the batteries? changed them. Same thing.

This morning, as he is in stand mode. Sitting on my desk.. I can get him to respond to me, sometimes. lets say 3 out of 10 commands issued exactly how the directions tell you to.. work.

I am torn on weather or not to tell someone else to buy this at full price. If you want this toy, I'd wait for amazon's "today deal". I got him for 59.99 with free shipping and am actually thankful.(or try ebay) If I would have payed full price for this toy.. I'd be furious right now. haha. But my kids are enjoying him ...even though he refuses some commands (follow me etc) I'd say if you can find him cheap. Get him for the star wars lover in your life... but do NOT pay over $60.00 for him.

Do NOT.

Here is our christmas morning video. Please excuse the close ups from on the children's faces. Its my home video of opening R2! haha
