Quick & Dirty: Tasty treat for Breed lovers.

Opening Sentence: Christmas music swelled from the tuxedo-clad orchestra, filling the ballroom of the Edinburgh mansion where two dozen beautiful couples danced beneath garlands of crisp holly and fragrant evergreen boughs.

The Review:

In A Taste of Midnight, we catch a glimpse of the life and times of Danika MacConn, whose appearance in this novella is a bit of a blast from the past. Long ago, back in book one; we met Danika when she lost her mate Conlan, who was a member of the Order. Danika, who now has an infant son, is visiting the home of her late mate, letting their son see his family for the holidays. When she stumbles upon a meeting between some very bad guys, she inadvertently puts herself in the line of fire.

Brannoc, aka Malcolm MacBain, is a man on a mission, and he doesn't want anything or anyone to get in the way of completing it, not even the beautiful Danika. Even if Danika was one of his first loves, and Breedmate to his best friend Conlan. A nasty vamp named Reiver is responsible for the death of his wife and unborn child, and he must be brought down, along with his human trafficking trade. He has now gone undercover in one of the vamps nightclubs in hopes of obtaining enough information to shut the guy down. What he hadn't counted on was having to save anyone, much less Danika, the one that got away.

When Reiver sends some nastiness Dani's way, Malcolm steps in, saves her, then hides her away in the one place no one would look for her, his own home. But, everything hits the fan when Danika decides to run and is captured as she tries to leave the country. Malcolm's cover has now been blown, and Reiver has taken not only Danika, but her son as well. But all is not lost, and these two will find a way to rid themselves of this danger, so they may finally be together, forever.

I originally read this novella when it came out in eBook form, and now it has also been published in print at the end of Darker After Midnight. It's a cute little teaser that anyone can read, you don't have to be in the know, but there are a couple of hints as to what is happening in the other books. It was nice to have a bit of the Breed between books, especially when the book that was released prior to this one left things in such turmoil, and it gave us a chance to read a bit of the next one, too.

The Midnight Breed Series:

1. Kiss of Midnight

2. Kiss of Crimson

3. Midnight Awakening

4. Midnight Rising

5. Veil of Midnight

6. Ashes of Midnight

7. Shades of Midnight

8. Taken by Midnight

9. Deeper than Midnight

9.5 A Taste of Midnight

10. Darker After Midnight
