Entertaining Time-Waster from Uncle John & Co.!,
This review is from: Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Impossible Questions and Astounding Answers (Paperback)
UNCLE JOHN'S IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS & ASTOUNDING ANSWERS is a pleasant enough one-off from those wonderful people at the Bathroom Readers' Institute. While it contains enough trivial information to while away a couple lunch hours or a flight out to San Fran, its format might be off-putting to some. Include me in that category.
In 286 pages, the Uncle John's crew poses a question and answers it, in varying amounts of detail, on the next page. The 250+ questions are arranged in general categories like 'Origins,' 'Public Lives,' 'American History,' 'Flora & Fauna' and 'Games People Play.' The arrangement makes for a lot of white space in the book and you feel like the book's a bit of a fluff piece.
The information, as always, is interesting. For example, you discover:
Why doughnuts have holes;
Who was the first female game-show host to win an Emmy;
What's the largest unprotected nerve in your body;
Where the largest sand dune area is in the United States; and
What African mammal kills the most people every year.
Since UNCLE JOHN'S IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS & ASTOUNDING ANSWERS retails for $9.95, perhaps the carping about format is much ado about nothing. The book is informative and fun so...your call, folks.
