4.0 out of 5 stars Good dimmable CFL for recessed fixtures, September 3, 2007

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've been looking for a dimmable CFL for recessed fixtures, and this seems to fill the bill perfectly. I'd say that the color doesn't seem quite as yellow as I would expect for a 2700K. It seems more nearly like 5000K (much more white). Other than that, it's a great bulb. Comes on immediately (unlike some of the GE and Phillips dimmables that I have purchased). It warms up quickly. It doesn't dim too much, but what I really wanted was something that could go into that fixture. We rarely actually dim those lights.

I ordered the same Osram dimmable bulb directly from bulbamerica.com, who listed this bulb as having a color temperature of 2700K like Amazon. Once I received the bulb and tried it out, I also noticed that it had a much whiter light than I expected for 2700K. Well, I looked at the label on the packaging and the label on the bulb itself and guess what? They sent me a 3000K bulb, which explains the whiter light. I bet they sent you the same 3000K bulb. The color temperature is listed right on the base of the bulb if you want to check. I've sent an e-mail to customerservice@bulbamerica.com telling them that they either sent me the wrong bulb, or the specs on their website are wrong.

Just thought you might want to know the possible reason behind your "whiter" light.

What do you mean actually by, "it doesn't dim too much"? Are you able to quantify the amount? 25? 50%? I'm looking to purchase upwards of 25 of these for a new house I'm building...where I *will* need to dim the lights.

Any info would be helpful!

Thanks,

JG
