Original Review from September 26, 2012:
Bought two EA6500s to replace two EA4500s. One for DHCP, one for non-DHCP to extend wireless - yes, could have bought bridge instead of second EAxxxx, but prefer matched hardware for admin purposes. No speed advantage over EA4500, since none of my installed hardware has latest high-speed wireless hardware standard. Second USB is nice, but not critical. Some other feature of near-field single tap to connect seems nice, but appears limited to cell phones with some app (have not tried, easier to just connect than download and install app). Biggest EA6500 problem was latest firmware (1.1.27.141816). Suspect a problem with firmware for case of non-DHCP (192.168.1.2) use, as EA6500 was error-free after factory reset, but displays nuisance pop-up message "! Unexpected Error" after admin login to a non-DHCP configured EA6500 using 192.168.1.2 for router access, after which everything seems somewhat normal. Linksys support was of little help, advised to reset to factory setting (which is old firmware version) after spending nearly 3 hours on phone with them. Risk of buying latest technology... it may have bugs (pretty convinced latest firmware is cause of "! Unexpected Error"). Bottom line, if you are only using one EA6500, you should be fine with this product. If you are using two EA6500s together, wait before buying in hopes Linksys releases updated firmware to fix problems (hopefully Linksys product team investigates and releases fix to problem reported). In my configuration, they DO work, it is just a nuisance logging in to router as admin and seeing message "! Unexpected Error" each time. Would I buy both again knowing of this problem ? Yes.

We recently released a firmware to address the issue you described. Go to: http://kb.linksys.com/26633 for step-by-step instructions or feel free to use the router's firmware update function. If you would like personal assistance, please call our support line at (800) 326-7114. Note: if you have auto update turned on, your firmware may already be updated.

This procedure is not necessary for newly purchased products because the router will be automatically updated to the latest firmware upon installation (using the setup CD).

I got the same problem and I got around it by going to router settings, connectivity, internet setting, change connection type to bridge mode.

Jim says:
I understand. I did not have to do this with EA4500 setup I had before I replaced both with EA6500 setup. I prefer to have this as a separate IP address and access it for administration reasons (firmware updates, etc.), so bridge mode is not desireable. It would work, but it has disadvantages.

Update - My two EA6500 V1.0 devices have worked flawlessly. No complaints. Linksys firmware has resolved "! Unexpected Error" message regarding 192.168.1.2 situation reported. Only complaint NOW is firmware update is needed for EA6500 V1.0 device to provide support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) browser. Firmware for EA6500 V2.0 device includes IE11 support, but still waiting for EA6500 V1.0 update to include IE11. Contacted Linksys about this problem, and they are "working on it.". Considered EA6900 upgrade, but do not see advantage over EA6500 considering legacy connected hardware wired/wireless "NICs".

Please try latest Linksys Firmware version 1.1.42.161129, it was just released on 2014-Jun-04 and seems to fix some of my problems with this rounter.

Sorry, you must be referring to a different model. This discussion is around an EA6500 V1.0. Unless you have access to advance information, the EA6500 V1.0 firmware has still not been updated since 03/22/2013, and still does not support IE11.
