Great for Macs Running Logic Pro,
This review is from: Novation 49 SL MkII USB Midi Controller Keyboard 49 Keys (Electronics)
I use this keyboard with an iMac running Logic Pro. My Mac uses an Intel i7 processor at 3.4 GHz, has 12 GB of 1333 Mhz ram and is up to date as concerns both the OS (10.7.4 ) and Logic Pro (9.1.7-). One simple mistake that many people make: DO NOT USE THE CD TO INSTALL AUTOMAP! Instead, download the current version from Novation. The CD's in the box have other freebies, so don't toss them, but the Novation Automap program is usually way out of date.
Happily, I have had no problems. Automap has worked happily with Logic Pro, Sibelius 7 and even Garageband. Regrettably, I have been unable to find a readymade Automap page for Notion (a program I'm using more and more for composition work. It's very musical in its approach.) Pre-programmed setting are good, but easily modified. I can not say enough about Automap. It is simply great. The keyboard is sterling. The keys have a good feel (for semi-weighted) and the controls are plentiful, have a good layout and feel "right" to the hand. It is not a micro keyboard - it takes up a goodly amount of workspace, but the tradeoff is worthwhile, all of the controls are like velvet. One neat feature that show how far Novation has thought this out. Instead of the usual track strips, Novation uses a ball like controller for pitchbend and mod. The unit is spring loaded to return to neutral. Novation actually made the spring defeat-able, so the mod can be left in place without tying up a hand. How cool.
The keyboard comes with a baby version of Ableton Live and a full fledged Bass Station as well as a mess of sounds and loops.
Play hard, play well, make some music every day.
