My family uses several methods to make coffee, and tends to take coffee pretty seriously. We have several different types of coffee makers, mostly non-electric.
After trying several types of coffee presses through the years, this is one of my favorites. It's one of 3 coffee makers in regular use now.
Easy to adjust flavor by grind, amount of coffee and steeping time
Nice amount of room for the grounds at the bottom so if you like a strong brewed cup, you don't have to be overly careful pressing down the screen
The screen is a fine mesh that fits tightly, handling even fine grinds of coffee well
Size- this is a 32 fluid ounce pot which makes enough for 3 standard 10 ounce cups of coffee. (I measured with standard cooking measuring cups)
The plastic- it's sturdier than it looks, but it does look fragile. It feels like a replaceable coffee maker instead of something you expect to have in 5 years.
Advantages to steeping coffee over other methods? The water is poured in just under the boiling point, and it cools while steeping which helps prevent bitterness. It's also easy to use and easy to clean. Wash by hand, rinse screen well and let the steel parts dry completely before put it back together and putting it away. My family uses an electric kettle to heat the water for coffee. I think it's also neater than cone type filtered pots and cone filter pots can have issues with very fine grinds and too fast pouring. This one doesn't.
It's a nice, affordable press and a decent size, I do recommend it.
