This review is from: Elizabeth I: A Novel (Hardcover)
I looked forward to reading a history of the later years of Elizabeth. Unfortunately, I felt as though I was plodding through each day in as frustrated a fashion as Elizabeth felt not being on the front lines with her soldiers. If you want a feel for how mundane and repetitive life must have been for her, read the book. It is a tragedy to learn that there were so few people in her realm that could interest her that Elizabeth had to waste so much time on the Earl of Essex. I thought a good deal of the book could have been eliminated to pick up the pace.
