I love this newest album from Danielle Ate the Sandwich! I'm listening on my third time through, so I'm finally qualified to review your next favorite album.
The things you need to know about Danielle Ate the Sandwich before buying (and you should definitely buy) are:
- The songs are simple and melodic, most being a beautiful female voice accompanied by the ukulele and a collection of more classical instruments such as violin.
- The lyrics are intelligent and witty, so expect to be very surprised with the depth of writing, which is rare in modern music.
- Danielle's great sense of humor comes through in the music. Expect to laugh out loud while listening to this album. A few lines come out of nowhere and catch you off-guard!
In the days of auto-tune, reverb, and bling, it's so refreshing to find a genuinely talented artist who hits the notes without computer assistance, who writes original, witty songs on subjects that haven't already been hashed to death in modern music, and who keeps her songs simple yet beautiful.
If you like any of the following musicians, I would highly recommend picking up a copy of Two Bedroom Apartment: The Shins, Sondre Lerche, Norah Jones, Sarah Harmer, Ben Folds, Chris Thile, Rosie Thomas, The Format, Polyphonic Spree, and Tilly and the Wall.
