This One Is A Toss Up,
This review is from: Day of the Dead (Divimax Special Edition) (DVD)
First off let me just say something. If I liked a horror movie based on whether or not it scared me, I wouldn't like any of them. For people to say that they didn't like a movie because it wasn't scary is something I cannot comprehend. What adult would honestly be scared of a movie anyway. The last movie that scared me was Hellraiser, and I wasn't older than 7 at the time. Really that movie was just more gross than anything.
I know people probably could care less about what I think so I'll just get to the review. When I first saw this movie I have to be honest, I thought it was better than Dawn of the Dead. Let's face it, actting back then was just bad. I think back to any sitcom or movie from the late 80's to early 90's, and most were like a public service announcment. None of them could act their way out of a wet sack. I don't know, it's kind of hard to explain what about this movie that just makes it so good. There's this booklet that comes with the movie. I just found it interesting what the movie reviewer writes in it. He talks about how he hated this movie and thought it sucked. He said years later as he got older that he put the movies in for laughs. He was shocked about how much he liked it and wondered how he let this one slip away into oblivion.
This movie is just one that you really like or hate. The way the characters treat each other resembles real life. If you were stuck in a hole with 12 other people for a long time A) you'd all get on each others nerves, and B) not everyone is going to be good, morally correct people. I would rent it first though. I've been known to like some bad movies.
