Effective and Affordable,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been diagnosed with mild seasonal affective disorder. Symptoms include low energy, fatigue, and difficulty falling asleep at night and waking in the morning,
and usually last from September through May. My doctor recommended increasing outdoor exercise and activities. As this is not always practical , I decided to do some research on SAD light therapy.
After looking at all the options I decided on the Omega sad light as it offers the best price for the recommended spectrum/intensity. Let me first point out the cons.
- It is housed in a light weight plastic some would call flimsy
-Must be plugged in to work as the battery only powers the clock
-programming the auto shutoff is not that intuitive and just not worth it . I just manually turn it on and off.
Having mentioned these points, I will tell tell that I love my Omega light.
The light that comes pouring out of this thing is awesome. After three weeks of use I can see a marked improvement in mood, energy ,alertness ,and concentration. I actually feel sleepy at bedtime something that has been eluding me for a while.
I use it daily at 50% intensity for the recommended thirty minutes during my morning routine.
I position it about two feet away and glance (not stare) at the light every now and then.
- It is recommended that you use it as early in the morning as possible, but what ever you do avoid using too close to bed time, for obvious reasons .
-Try to incorporate the sessions into your daily routines (breakfast,computer...)
Dedicating exclusive time is not only unnecessary but decreases the chances of keeping with the therapy and ultimate relief .
-If the unit stops working for no apparent reason (has happened to me once)
hit the reset button on the backside it just springs back to life.
Summary : There are many expensive options to choose from with more bells and whistles. Those may be for you but if you are looking for an affordable unit and certainty if you are unsure if you should invest in a more expensive light the Omega is the way to go.
