This review is from: Smart Self-Publishing: Becoming an Indie Author (Kindle Edition)
This is one of the best books I have ever read on any given the subject. Both informative and fun, it turns what could be a dull how-to book into an engaging read.
The author is encouraging and firm in equal proportions. She warns about things that most people treat as a third rail, especially handling the notion of sabotage. Whether intentional or not, sabotage is definitely a problem for some and most writers avoid this uncomfortable topic. This is just one example of how the author "makes it real."
While she is very clear as to the difficulties you may encounter in indie publishing, the author does so in a way that does not discourage you from giving it a try. Embedded in the book, also, are ways to navigate the difficult technical issues, including the possibility of getting outside help. She also gives some guidance as to marketing and public relations and the roles these things play in your success as an indie publisher.
I highly recommend this book. I have used only bits and pieces of the suggestions since I have read it, and have had success at each step of the way. In short, if you are at all considering indie publishing, buy it now!
