This review is from: Baseball in the Garden of Eden: The Secret History of the Early Game (Kindle Edition)
This has the makings of a terrific book. John Thorn knows more about the early history of baseball than anyone alive. But he has poured all his research onto the page without providing the structure a book needs. He wanders from anecdote to anecdote, often repeating himself. He sustains neither argument nor narrative. A good editor would have shaped and pruned his work. Instead, the publisher has dumped all the work on the reader, making for a painful experience. Simon and Schuster should be ashamed.
