Charging Stand (not a dock),
This review is from: Motorola Standard Dock and Power for MOTOROLA XOOM (Motorola Retail Packaging) (Personal Computers)
As others have pointed out this device is a CHARGING STAND with no docking capability what so ever.
Initially it was 'difficult' to seat my Xoom properly, but after a few days of use the Xoom now drops right down onto the dock with no apparent adverse wear on the Xoom's microUSB port. I exert no pressure to seat the Xoom, its own weight will seat it to the stand when properly lined up.
My use of the Xoom now consumes the daily charge so I've started to use the Xoom as my alarm clock and wanted the Charging Stand (its not a dock!) to hold the Xoom nicely on my nightstand and charge the device over night.
On your initial uses be sure to line your Xoom up properly and avoid exerting too much force. The design of the Charging STAND can facilitate the damage of the microUSB port on the Xoom - so be careful. I have to remove my Xoom from its rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Black) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Motorola XOOM Android Tablet case before placing on the charging stand.
My ease of use is now four stars after a week of use, but its initial difficulty to seat requires me to rate that as a one star.
My tips would be:
* Practice placing your Xoom on the charging stand a few times before really using it. Place the stand on a kitchen counter or table so you can more easily see what's going on.
* Examine the microUSB connector on the Xoom device periodically.
* I've seen others recommending a slight tilt forward, backward or to one side for placing. I don't. I keep the Xoom flush to the supporting back of the stand and hold and manipulate the Xoom from its bottom edge, not the top or sides. I don't really hold the Xoom either -- it rests on my two fingers supporting the Xoom from the bottom edge the stand supporting the back, but be careful not to let it tip forward.
!!! OPTION !!!
Use a picture easel 6" Plate stand, easel - dark brown!
Extraordinarily cheaper and quite functional (tested with a 12" version). You could put some adhesive rubber pads on the bottom to prevent it from sliding.
A lot more options in the exact style. Some are quite decorative.
Provides a superior angle than the Motorola charging stand.
Should be compatible with the vast majority of shells and cases.
I would recommend avoiding the easels with the protruding metal stubs in case your Xoom should fall forward. (For example this one Large York Metal Bowl or Platter Plate Stand)
