4.0 out of 5 stars Works great on the D5100, August 22, 2011
By
This review is from: Neewer Pro Battery Grip for Nikon D5100 5200 D5300 DSLR Camera Compatible with EN-EL14 Batteries (Electronics)
Hoping that Nikon will release their own version of this, but until then this one is perfect for the price. Fits well and looks nice on the D5100 and with the extra battery, the D5100 feels nice. The grip area is also nice. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is for two things, first the little wire that you need to connect from the battery grip to the camera is a little annoying but I can live with it especially for what I paid for this item. The wire just makes it look a bit strange but not a big problem and when you take out the screen and flip it, sometimes you bump into the wire, but not to big of an annoyance. Secondly, when you are shooting vertically it is a bit difficult to move the AF point unless you move your hand up to the cursor to move it, then back to use the shutter on the battery grip. Other than that, works well and looks nice, makes the camera look like a pro camera.

Nikon will not release a battery grip for the D5100. There was never any intention on doing so either, as you notice at the bottom of the D5100 there is no pronged connector (which is why off brand models have to rely on the wire).

Oh ok, that makes sense. I just really wish this grip had a multi selector but I guess with what you mentioned, it would need a different kind of connection as well.

Arturo,

How is the fit of this grip to your D5100? (I've read on some other grips they were more of a generic fitting grip and didn't fit to the camera exactly perfectly)

I thought I had already answered, sorry for the delay. Anyways, yes this fits the D5100 perfectly, it was made just for it.

I just received this, question do I have to take off my battery door to use this?

Art says:
Yes you do, but it clips on and off easily. Just make sure to store it in a good place so you don't lose it.

The battery door should just slip in the slot on the post that goes into the camera. That way you can keep it all together and you don't lose the battery door. :)

Would anyone happen to know if this is also compatible with the Nikon D3100? I know they use the exact same type of battery, which is the EN-EL14, so if I bought this for my D3100, shouldn't have a problem right?
