Very long book but worth the read,
This review is from: In the Land of the Long White Cloud (In the Land of the Long White Cloud saga) (Paperback)

In the Land of the Long White, a book about two women who venture off to New Zealand, the author has written a book that translates well into English as the story is easy-to-read. The prose flows as the characters are brought to life.
I do wish the book was a bit shorter, it's not often you read 800+ page books any more, but this book was one of them. Sometimes the plot seemed to drag, and I wished things moved along at a quicker pace, but overall this book was just about right.
There are the typical twists and turns of unrequited love and the problems of love in general. There is a bit of social commentary about the welfare of children, social classes, and religion to be found in this book based on the 1800s viewpoint.
The characters were nothing special, typical characters found in books like these, some could say the characters were leaning toward common stereotypes of this genre. Overall, I've read worse so I cannot say this was or is a strong drawback concerning this book.
