Since I live near the Beartooth-Absarokee Mountains, I decided this year to enjoy them and the many trails they offer. Needing a better pair of hiking sandals, I decided on a pair of Keen Whisper's. Incredibly comfortable, and although I have bony, problem feet that are perpetually blistered and raw without socks, these never once caused a sore spot---even hiking over rocky and uneven terrain. Even wet they didn't rub and dried quickly.
I have high arches though, and took only a couple dayhikes to realize they weren't going to work. If your arches, like mine, are high and you intend to do some hiking on mountainous or uneven terrain, these probably aren't the best choice. I ended up going back for another pair of Keens-Newport this time-with better arch support.
I have every intention of still wearing them for less strenuous walking, as they are a great and very comfortable sandal. Many have had good reviews for hiking, and for most I would recommend these, but if you have higher arches that need support, you might want to look at another style. That's the only reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5. And I will admit that is a subjective rating based on what I purchased them for.
