I'm afraid that Mr. Altucher over simplifies the issue of college attendance. Yes there are other options to spending a fortune on a college degree, however, some careers require a degree in order to join the ranks! Many of his suggestions to 18 year old high school graduates have some merit and may indeed educate them in the real facts of life and dealing with people; but, the fact still remains that a degree is the entry point to many careers in this job market. Until the degree is replaced by either a certificate or badge, it will remain the starting point for many to get into the job market. A little to simplistic of an alternative to a college education. This type of anecdotal narrative can be useful - but in other cases can be dangerous and leave the reader with a false sense of confidence that a problem has been solved.
The author might better spend his time in researching other alternatives to acquiring college credit and earning a college degree then just suggesting someone venture off and spend their college money on traveling or starting a business, etc.
