Great Debut Plot-twisting Novel,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Poacher's Son (Mike Bowditch Mysteries) (Paperback)
Paul Doiron's debut novel, The Poacher's Son, is a wonderful read. The novel takes place in the North Woods of Maine, an area that has remained relatively untouched. That is soon going to change with the impending corporate invasion that threatens to drive the locals from the land that they've called home for years. As tensions rise, our protagonist, Mike Bowditch, finds himself at the center of an all out manhunt for his deadbeat father. Mike's father is accused of murdering one of the corporate executives and his police escort. As the mystery unfolds, we follow Mike around the state of Maine, as he tries to defend his father.
The Poacher's Son is a well developed plot-twisting novel. We learn the details of Mike's relationships with the many characters and suspicion is shifted at every turn. At times, while reading the novel, I felt a longing to give it all up and head up to the wilds of Maine to live the simple life. Paul Doiron's rookie novel was a joy to read and I hope the first of many.
