Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Settlers of Catan 5 and 6 Player Extension (Toy)
I had been excited about getting this to allow more players in our regular game night...however what is not listed is that this is made for the later editions where the water pieces are linked together like a puzzle (not the normal hexagon shaped water pieces). Really.. how hard would it have been to crank out a few water pieces to fit the old editions and toss them in the box... boom, all editions are now covered in one shot.
I'm sad to say I had to return this hours after receiving it.

I had the exact same problem!! NO WHERE does the description or box say it's not compatible with the original version of the game. How was I supposed to know? We kept our extension because we were sitting there with 6 people at our house ready to play and sort of made the pieces work, but the art is different (and hard to remember which commodities are which from two different styles of pictures) and the 'port frame' doesn't work etc, etc.

If it's not available for the older editions, why not just snip the "puzzle-piece" tabs off the border pieces? Works just fine then, doesn't it?

You can now get an adapter kit that contains the interlocking water pieces. I can't decide whether it will be a problem having mis-matched art.

I've got the old version(some of my stuff is even in german) with 5-6 player through cities and knights but my basic 5-6 player expansion was just damaged beyond playbility and so I need a new basic 5-6 player ed. But I would also like to know more about the mismatched art, because I people I would be playing with play CCG alot and is the different art on the backs of the cards or the front where it tells yopu what it is. If its the back of the cards I know they will be doing card counting. I would only buy the interlocking kit if I had too because it unnecessary, but I would like to look at it. Anyone found it yet?
