THIS RELEASE IS A RIP OFF!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Beach Boys 50: Live in Concert (DVD)
The Beach Boys are awesome, their 50th Anniversary tour was amazing, but this release is a rip off! The Beach Boys performed around 50 songs at each of the concerts including many amazing rarities with beautiful harmonies. Unfortunately, this release is lacking all of the magic. The corporate powers that be have decided to only include 21 songs on this DVD so that they can sell more copies to the casual fans. This "Live In Concert" DVD contains only about 40% of what The Beach Boys performed at each of their shows. This DVD does not contain most of the hauntingly beautiful harmonies and wonderful music that made this tour so magical. This DVD release is an insult to anyone who truely appreciates the beauty and genius of The Beach Boys. This DVD does not do the band justice, nor does it give the fans what they deserve. Don't waste your money here so that the corporate big wigs can cash in on the legacy of The Beach Boys. The fans deserve a release of an ENTIRE show.
As a follow up in case you missed it, here are the songs that The Beach Boys performed that are NOT included on this DVD: Little Honda, Don't Back Down, Surfin Safari, Surfer Girl, The Little Girl I Once Knew, This Whole World, Wendy, Getcha Back, Then I Kissed Her, Please Let Me Wonder, You're So Good To Me, Kiss Me Baby, Come Go With Me, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, When I Grow Up To Be A Man, Dance Dance Dance, Darlin, Disney Girls, Good Timin', It's Ok, Cottonfields, Be True To Your School, Balad Of Ol Betsy, Still Cruisin, Don't Worry Baby, Pet Sounds, Add Some Music, Our Prayer, I Just Wasn't Made For These Times, Let Him Run Wild, California Dreamin, California Saga, In My Room, Surfer Girl, Forever, God Only Knows, All Summer Long, Do You Wanna Dance, Surfin USA, Barbara Ann, & Summers Gone.
The Beach Boys performed ALL of these songs, and All of these songs have been left off this DVD! Take a look at what you're being shafted out of getting and decide for yourself if this DVD is a winner!

It's amazing how you know that, whatever the track lineup, it's going to be a ripoff a whole month before the disc is released.

Yeah how do you know this DVD is a ripoff and how many songs or what songs are on it have you seen it? I VERY! highly doubt it because it's not even going to be relased until November 20th. I'm not going by this review for sure. A REAL! Beach Boy fan who attended any of the concerts this summer as I did would buy one no matter what!

CD Universe has this product description up:
With 56 US Top 100 hits, 36 Top Ten hits and 4 Number One singles, The Beach Boys left an impression on the 1960's pop culture rivaled only by the band that considered them their top competition: The Beatles. This video contains 21 classic Beach Boys hits performed live in Phoenix, Arizona on the band's 50th anniversary worldwide tour. Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks and Bruce Johnston gathered in 2012 for an emotional reunion in Los Angeles to record their first album of new material in 20 years, to reflect on their remarkable history and to kick off a worldwide tour.
I'm cancelling my pre-order.

The Beach Boys performed 51 songs total in 3 hours when I saw them in Denver! Again I am not going by this ONE! review since the DVD won't even be released until a month from today!

The fans do deserve a release of an entire show, especially those of us who weren't able to attend one of these great concerts. I'm buying this concert regardless, just because it is a Beach Boys concert. However, I am hoping for an entire concert release. The 21 songs on this disc will no doubt be their most popular songs. That is a way to target the casual fan. Just because they include the most popular songs does not mean that the best songs performed will be among them. You know it will contain Surfin USA, Fun Fun Fun, Good Vibrations, Barbara Ann, Help Me Rhonda, Surfer Girl, etc. I highly doubt songs like Marcella, Kiss Me Baby, Add Some Music to Your Day, Disney Girls, Good Timin', etc will be included and I think that is a shame for those of us who aren't just casual fans. But like I said, I will buy in anyways just because it's the Beach Boys and I hope for something more complete in the future.

Yeah, I guess you saw the Boys this summer. They played 50 songs in concert! If you saw the set list for anyone of them, you would know. There was only one show that they did not perform 50 songs. Yes, that was the last show that was in London. On that night, they played 60 songs, just look it up at a web site that lists set lists1

Beach Boys "fans" are the worst.
If you continue to scare off potential customers with 1-star reviews of a product you haven't even seen don't you think it will make the record label think twice before releasing more Beach Boys-related products in the future?
21 songs sounds pretty generous to me. They even included Marcella, which is cool. Yeah, I'd love a 2 and a half hour massive DVD set with all the bells and whistles. But it's not going to happen. Instead you get this tidy overview of the show. Enjoy it for what it is, not what you think it should be. The missing songs can be seen easily on youtube.

Take a look at the official track listing now and tell me I'm wrong. I love The Beach Boys and that is why I am so upset with this release.
