Sickening violence against women,
This review is from: Masters of Horror: Imprint (DVD)
I love horror. I watch it all the time. This episode of MOH of just too much for me. The torture scene which some people found ridiculous or funny, I found horrifying. I actually cried. I can think of reasons why this movie could have some value if it were a movie about how terrible violence against women is. But it's not. It's supposed to be entertainment. What's terrifying and heart wrenching in watching this is that women are treated this way in real life, all around the world. It's not funny, it's not ridiculous, it's gut wrenching. Maybe that's what the director is going for. I suppose I try to see what directors are trying to accomplish when they make movies such as these...I'm thinking the original Last House on the Left (which, frankly seemed like a kid's movie in comparison) as another example. I don't know. Although I did see an interview with Wes Craven where he said he wasn't sure he would have made Last House on the Left if he had the family he does now.
To me horror is entertainment when it taps into our fears of the unknown and supernatural. Explicit torture and sexual violence against women are all too real. So, if you feel similarly, watch something else.

To me, things like ghosts and monsters just aren't scary because they're not real. I find a lot of supernatural horror to be very interesting, but never truly scary. In my opinion, the more real the horror is, the scarier it is by far. Its the knowledge that the horror in the movie actually does happen in real life or could happen to you that really makes it terrifying. Supernatural just can't do that for me because I know none of it is real.

I'm a little confused here. I keep hearing people complain about this not being good Horror when in point of fact it isn't Horror at all. This movie is Torture Porn plain & simple. Calling it Horror just lets the Torture Porn junkies sail under a false flag.

When I think torture porn in a movie, I think August Underground. This may have torture scenes in it, but it has a legitimate story and other elements of horror.

So this reviewer gets it but doesn't get it. This movie is everything you said it is and everything you say it's not.
It is about the violence that women endure. and it is about how some get off on this violence.
It's about letting you have your cake and showing what a sicko you are for enjoying it frosting all on your face and everything...
