2.0 out of 5 stars Stupid people in a haunted woods, March 22, 2011
This review is from: Shaman Woods (Mass Market Paperback)
This was just another typical story about a cursed place because a tribe of Native Americans were slaughtered
by evil Europeans on this spot.
The Martins are a typical family, father, mother, precocious teenage girl, precocious ten year old boy and an
adorable four year old boy. They just happen to buy a summer home in the middle of a forest that is being
clearcut by an evil logging company.
Cutting down the trees releases the ghosts of the Spanish Conquistadors who conquered the land so long ago.
But the stupidity of everyone in the story is astounding. Even after three horrible "accidents", the loggers
decide to stay and continue to work.
Even after (SPOILER ALERT!)
the father goes Dark Side and starts hitting his four year old and threatening to kill his wife, the idiot
mother, instead of packing up and getting the hell out of there, opts to stay with her lunatic husband (who
has begun sleeping with a knife under the bed)
A local 20 year old Native American, apparently the last Shoshone alive, has a vision of his late grandfather
and suddenly becomes a powerful shaman.
There is a ridiculous creature that forms itself from the bones of the dead Spanish and has a chainsaw blade
for teeth.
Even the writing isn't that great. It doesn't exactly suck, but as an example, instead of using prose to
describe the woods, Ms. Fields just tells us to "imagine the woods from Snow White".
The story is a waste of time. Don't bother.
