Good Video Poor Audio,
This review is from: Contour+2 Video Camera (Electronics)
I have owned 2 Contour Cameras, Contour Roam and Contour +2 which I currently own. Both had poor audio that is muffled. I have to use the audio editor in my video editing software to improve the sound quality for each and every video I post - I have more than 1200 videos on youtube. Video quality is superb even at the 2nd lowest HD setting which I use to get the smaller files sizes since I produce so many videos. The original Contour Roam had the same poor audio. I described the problem to Contour support and they asked me to return the camera (at my own expense) and they would either repair it or replace the camera. They ended up repairing the mic (saying the diaphram on the mic was defective - but then Contour closed its doors and I never got my camera back. When the company reopened for business I contacted them about it and after several more months they sent me a reburbished +2 which is NOT waterproof - they sent it in a box with no accessories, not even a battery. So now I have a camera that is not waterproof, has no waterproof housing and has poor audio. After several exchanges with the new support group at Contour I gave up trying to get this one looked at or repaired Two strikes for Contour.

I have found the external mic jack to be really good. I use an external mic in windy conditions since I can use a mic with a wind muff. I also use it for in-helmet audio. A good quality lavalier mic will be very small, offer better mic placement wherever you want to capture your sound, and not get in the way of whatever you are doing.
