5.0 out of 5 stars Watch the FMA series *first* before watching this!, February 5, 2012
This review is from: Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa (Limited Edition) (DVD)
The Conqueror of Shamballa was the first ever Fullmetal Alchemist thing I ever watched. If you don't know anything about FMA, note that this movie is a grand finale that ties in very precisely to the FMA (2003) series, and you would not be able to understand or appreciate the plot and the characters' motivations, and appreciate the ingenuity of the story, until you watch the series. I didn't know much about FMA and wanted to "sample" it to see if I liked the characters and the universe, before committing to watching the 50+ episode FMA or the 60+ episode FMA:Brotherhood. Although I didn't understand much of the back story of this movie, I absolutely adored the characters and the sense of humor. It got me sufficiently invested to watch both the series (devoting many many hours of my life to this mega-enterprise). Looking back, I would recommend any new Hagaren-nut to watch FMA first, then this movie, Conqueror of Shamballa, then FMA:Brotherhood. Finally, I notice that some professional newspaper critics have been slamming the new 2012 movie Sacred Star of Milos, saying it makes no sense and is for "fans only". Well, of course. If you haven't invested enough hours in the series, and went to watch Milos "cold", you shouldn't expect to "get it". Still, anyone with an open heart and a cheerful mind, and a sense of humor, should be able to approach any FMA episode "cold" and be charmed.
