Great family, smart read,
This review is from: Secrets of Bella Terra: A Scarlet Deception Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Very clever start to the series, with a couple who has failed at romance twice before, a loving family who sticks together during times of troulbe, and this ongoing mystery with an expensive bottle of wine and people who would kill to get it. Rafe is a security expert, but he has a lot hidden beneath the surface with the problems he had growing up. Brooke is very much like him, with lots of problems from her past that she's overcome on her own. They have loved each other in the past and really never got over each other, but that doesn't help in the crisis that's threatening them now. In fact, it makes things worse, because they have so many reasons to distrust each other. This time, they have to work together or everything would be lost, and seeing them struggle to some kind of agreement is really entertaining.
I liked Secrets of Bella Terra a lot. I read the Darkness Chosen series and liked the family, and really, no one writes families as well as Christina Dodd. But in this story, there's also the area that is interesting and alive in the book, like a character -- like Ireland in a Nora Roberts book. I'm so impressed. A fabulous story. Good characters and dialogue. Great setting. I'm in for the whole series.

I was thinking of picking this book up and the other day I finally made it to the bookstore. Then, unfortunately I had to leave the store because I ran out of time, but I still managed to skim a few lines (literally a few only). Bad habit, I know. I hardly ever do so, but this time I'm glad I did. *Spoilers ahead for some* I read the part at the end where this woman, Jena? I can't remember her name at the moment, but she's refering to an instance when she, Rafe and Brooke were in high school. And it makes it seem like Rafe did something with her in the library? that Brooke didn't know about...What is she referring to (I hope its not THAT bad)? And, is it true? Did Rafe ever cheat on Brooke while he was involved with her? I ask because I hate storylines like that, they make me sad and for a person who really gets into her romance books-you can imagine that it's quite depressing! I'd appreciate the info, thanks!
