It Is That Good,

This review is from: The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics (Ala Notable Books for Adults) (Hardcover)
In a perfect world, this would be #1 on the bestseller lists, Daniel James Brown's name would be a household word, and this would be made into an Academy Award winning movie. It is that good. The protagonist is a Harry Potter-like character, who is forced to make his own way in the world from an early age with no help from family. Like Harry, he meets adversity at almost every step of the way, and in the end, he triumphs. But it's not just about the characters, the historical perspective is priceless with the Great Depression and Hitler's Germany creating a dark, looming backdrop against which The Boat is a lantern beaming out goodness and hope. The Boys brings that history to life. I should mention that even the bibliography is incredible. So much research went into this book.
I was sorry when the story was over. It is that good.
