A couple months ago my sister asked me if my cable was crumbling like hers. At the time it was not, but just today as I began to plug my cable in I noticed it too has begun to shed the plastic coating exposing the wire. I'm thinking Amazon should consider this cabling a defective product and replace all Kindle owners cables as a "good will" gesture.

A number of others have had this problem too. Be sure to call Kindle support; they replaced mine (it was 1 1/2 years old) for no charge to me, including 1 day shipping.

Amazon did this for me, as well, no charge!!!

Seriously, amazon support is awesome and they'll make sure you get a new one, just call. Same as everyone else who commented here. yay!

I'm surprised. My Kindle 2 is older than that and Amazon just replaced it for me. I emailed them and they responded in an hour with instructions on how to replace it. Try again.
