1.0 out of 5 stars yellow journalism at its worst, February 18, 2013
By
This review is from: Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief (Kindle Edition)
When a pulitzer prize winning journalist embarrasses himself with such a poorly researched and obviously slanted piece of writing as Going Clear... , and when he uses this much paper to rehash and revisit inuendo and second and third hand "facts" that have been around for years, he should be required to forfeit his prize, to apologize for wasting readers' time, and to do community service planting trees.

This book tells unsubstantiated rumors about celebrities ala the supermarket tabloids, quotes disaffected former members who have an obvious and vicious ax to grind, and makes personal attacks on individuals without once mentioning any of the good deeds this church does through a wide variety of social betterment groups, or the accolades and awards presented to L. Ron Hubbard for his humanitarian research in a wide variety of fields including education, drug and criminal rehabilitation, and morality.

I suppose Mr Wright could have done worse--he could have written a book railing against puppies and babies.

Puppies and babies don't require people to sign outrageous contracts; nor do they split up families.

Yet you never say what was in the research that was incorrect. You didn't dispute one fact in the book outside of meaningless accusations. I love it when Scientologists try to defend the Church and can't.

How's that Scientology working out for you?

Wow, you don't even bother to pretend you're not a shill. That's something, I guess.

No answers, huh?

And seriously, you're suggesting that a religion that is widely suspected of blackmail, murder, cult behavior and other such activities is comparable to "puppies and babies"? Are you really claiming that your religion is so much purer than ANY OTHER GROUP of people on the planet? Despite their slave organizations, split up families, forced abortions and other delightful activities? Yeah, puppies and babies do that all the time.

Oh, who am I kidding? Cognitive dissonance has set in, and now you must justify your presence in that religion by insisting that they are "puppies and babies" innocent.

I also notice that you never once say he's incorrect, just that his research is bad and that he prints "rumors." Very telling.
