My new favorite shoe!,
This review is from: Merrell Men's Barefoot Bare Access (Apparel)
This shoe happily fulfills the niche between a minimalist runner and a shoe you can wear comfortably while walking. I love my minimalist shoes--NB Minimus & Merrell True Glove--but neither of them are great for walking around for extended periods of time. The Bare Access is that shoe. It is better than barefoot b/c when you need that little bit of padding on the heel, you have it. If you run on the road and/or trail as a barefooter would, this shoe keeps nothing from you and you feel the road and trail really well. For running, this sole offers better feel than the vibram you get with the other Merrell, NB, etc. shoes. I know the hard core minimalists don't like it, but for anyone with a practical side to them who wants to wear as little shoe as possible during the normal day, this is it! This takes the awkward out of minimalist shoes and the color choices you get at amazon are terrific. I'm stocking up in case they stop making it.
One last thing, for CrossFit, this is a wonderful shoe for most days. For heavier days and rope climbing, I'd go with my Minimus. For bodyweight days, Bare Access. Perfect for double unders, too, b/c the sole is flat and doesn't offer anything to catch the rope on those near misses.
