Finally no more calls from my mother,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung Series 3 Chromebox (Personal Computers)
I decided to order the Chrome Box after a long decision making process. My mother who is close to 80 was always calling me about a virus, forgotten password, virus software or firewall message, foo-king windows update etc. the list goes on and on!
My mother only uses the PC for email, Facebook, and her games like Farmville (Ah!) so I thought this would be a great fit for her needs. Shortly after unpacking the Chrome Box, plugging in her old USB mouse, keyboard then old monitor it was up and running (after an initial update that took about ten minutes).
I had her create a Gmail account and she was quickly on her way. This really does boot up between 5 and 7 seconds ... amazing! She was able to play all of her games on Facebook, Farmville and Bejeweled (Ah! Again), and all her other sites. After seeing some of the reviews I was concerned about some sites not working. Went to CNN and had her click on several videos and repeated this on the Yahoo news site, video ran better then on my expensive machines.
My mom now lives happily inside the Chrome browser and I have a lot more free time! no more phone calls, snicker snicker:)

My mother still has not called with any problem, now if I can just get her to stop sending me FarmVille requests :)

I hope you still talk with her. The computer was just an excuse to hear her son's voice, you know.

Thanks for posting your review. My parents are way computer illiterate, and have been using a mac mini for the past 5 years. It's on it's last breath and I want to hook up something simple for them when I visit during the holidays. The Chromebox seems to be perfect. I'll be getting them one. Can you remote in at all? That helped me fix issues when being across the country..

I did the same for my 91 year old mother, I have the Chromebox from hell. She had a slow DSL line with an antique Siemans modem, wouldn't connect anymore so I upgraded her a speed and a new wireless modem. Her chromebox will not work with this modem, the cursor works but virtually nothing works when you click on something, tabs can't be opened or closed etc. This was all tried by ethernet, I was able to open up wireless connections and fill in info needed, but it wouldn't connect when I clicked on it. The kicker is I took her chromebox to my home and connected it to my Uverse by ethernet and it worked great. And now it gets stranger, I was able to hook up a laptop by ethernet and wifi to her new modem and they worked great! How on earth is this even possible? When I open the browser on her chromebook on her modem it says Google Chrome was not shut down properly, nothing happens when you click on restore, but at my house and modem it does restore and works! I have a tech savvy friend and he never heard of something like this. I've been frustrated before about things, but this just about beats all.
