What a disappointment,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As other reviewers have said, I bought this to play DVDs from other regions. In the first month it actually played a Region 2 movie that I had been dying to get. Now it is three weeks later and today a regular DVD that has played several times before will not play, getting the "incompatible with the region marking of the disc" message. I tried several other commercial DVDs but nothing plays. I contacted Panasonic support and the tech told me to unplug the unit for 3 minutes. I did so and still got the same message. He had me check the disc for fingerprints and scratches, which I did. There were none but the disc still would not play. He then told me the disc was damaged. Hardly since it plays in my laptop DVD player. He then told me to return it or have it repaired. I asked if anyone had heard of this error and he said it was a new one on him. Judging by the experience of the other reviewers I have to conclude that Panasonic released a dud without proper testing. I still trust Panasonic and have many of their products, but this one is a failure.

I think you are having the same problem I had with my computer. The firmware has locked into the most played region code. Not cool for a "region free" player.
