This review is from: Lang Lang: The Chopin Album (MP3 Music)
Depending on your view of this music, Chopin is open to interpretation. What I miss here is the "Polish" element in the music. Whist LANG LANG plays with great skill and the recording is superb, I find that he isn't comprehending the Polish dance element, Chopins delicate recital style, the musical nationalism inherent from the history of Chopins' life.
While LANG LANG can blast out music on this Steinway, again full bodied sound and technically accomplished keyboard playing, I'm not sure I agree with his view of the music.
Even though LANG LANG chooses sensible tempos, his rubato is well judged, phrasing is in touch with Chopin, LANG LANG seeks virtuosity in much of this Chopin, while my preferences are for more lightly played, disciplined, musically varied styles in the Etudes, not just loud and fast.
Full credit though, goes to LANG LANG, for his musical genius, discography and output, interprative skills and providing a modern recording.
I suggest sampling before you buy to see if this disc fits the needs of your collection.
