Warp Dash is one of few games that can only be played on smart phones / tablets because they take advantage of their specific capabilities such as tilt detection. It's one of those games that feels like a phone or tablet is where they belong.
The game reminds me of the old Zaxxon only you don't shoot and, of course, no need for a joystick. You high-speed race some craft, picking 'triangles' while avoiding obstacles. The more triangles you accumulated before you run into a jumper station, the higher and longer you jump and you get more points. Well... if you're for the thrills, this is a good one because the ONLY way you control your ship is by tilting your phone/tablet.
And, yes, you use whatever points you earn to buy yourself upgrades such as boosters and faster, more maneuverable ships.
You play the game on the traditional 3 levels of skills: beginner, intermediate or advanced and, true to the 80's tradition, I don't believe you ever win. You simply run into more challenging environments and keep accumulating points until you run into a wall, your achievement being your high score.
The game is Feint-enabled but in a rather unobtrusive way. There are also ties into Facebook if you really feel like bragging about your exploits.
There is a 'detector' feature that tries to understand what type of device you have and adjust settings automatically but you can manually override them if you disagree. The game believes that my XOOM could handle the highest parameters and, indeed, it plays well with only an occasional fraction/second hiccup.
I am impressed by the fast graphics and even more so by the way the game instantly responds to the slightest tilt.
Sound effects and background are adequate and they help keeping the adrenaline level high.
This is a VERY well done game. In fact, I am surprised and grateful that Amazon lets us have it for free for one day. Worth trying it out and worth the paying for if you are into this kind of thrills.
