This review is from: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Pipe Dream (New York City Center Encores! Presents) (Audio CD)
I've listened to the 1955 cast album and this one. Both are incredible scores. Both are great. I recommend buying the original and the Encores. The book must have been the problem as the score is so melodic. All at once you love it. No pun intended.

completely agree with you I have the original 1955 Lp of the original cast recording that I managed to get in a specialist shop over here in the UK in London about 30 years ago I also have the CD and I also have the original libretto that I got on ebay and I cant really for the life of me understand why it wasn't a hit, I can just assume that middle class Broadway audiences in 1955/56 didn't want to accept a show like that from Rodgers & Hammerstein, however it does contain some of the best songs they ever wrote together as I'm sure this recording shows, cant wait for my copy over here in UK.
