Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Yes. It is expensive but...
It makes your camera feel oh so right. Beyond the comfort factor your battery life also doubles either through the addition of another EN-EL 15 or 8 AA batteries. There is also an option to use the Nikon D4's battery, the EN-EL 18, but you must first purchase the BL-5 battery cover (of course it's sold separately right?!). By the way, a soft Nikon case is included to store one of the battery trays when not in use. The grip has good weight and feels as though it genuinely belongs on your camera. The shutter button is responsive and you will feel right at home with the rest of the controls as well. In my opinion this is an essential accessory for the professional photographer and it would have been ideal if Nikon just built it onto the body of the D800 from the start. However, I suppose then the differences between the flagship of the Nikon line, the D4, and the D800 would be diminished which would be a poor business move. It would also be nice if Nikon engineered the battery grip to house two EN-EL 15 batteries as opposed to one so that you wouldn't have to remove the battery grip every time you needed to recharge the battery located inside the camera. Maybe there is another reason this is not a feature although it can be done and I appreciated the convenience it afforded on the Canon 7D.
You could wait for a generic version, you could wait for Nikon to lower the price, but we all know life is short and those two options are just not as much fun.
