This review is from: Quantum of Solace (DVD)
To me, Quantum of Solace was a complete and utter letdown ! I saw and liked its direct predecessor Casino Royale, so my expectations were high. But I found some parts of QoS to be almost unwatchable. Did the editor go mad or was he doped up when he cut this movie? The action sequences comprise of extremely short, blurry images that pass with machinegun-speed. They produce an almost stroboscopic effect that literally hurts your eyes and numbs your mind and leaves you unsure of what's happened. At home, you can rewind the DVD player to watch it again. In the movie theater, you're hopefully lost. The result is a physically exhausting film experience after a mere five minutes of play. I almost switched the DVD-player off there and then. I know that the pace of (action) movies has picked up considerably since the nineties, and in general that is a good thing. But the pace of the action sequences of QoS is ridiculous and an insult to moviegoers. My young adult children (18 and 16) complained about this too, so thankfully I am not alone in this respect. Just lately, I began to fear that I have trouble coping with the increasing pace of today's movies because I have turned middle-age. Clearly this is not the case, then ! The action and violence in QoS is gritty and realistic, almost clinical. And I love Daniel Craig as the new JB. Five stars for him. But QoS the movie seems to have no discernible plot and what little plot there is is enigmatic (not in the positive sense), vague, illogical and lacks coherence. This quickly becomes annoying to the extreme. You never have an idea what's going to happen next and --most important--why. I am very happy with "the new JB" as portrayed by Daniel Craig, but QoS is definitely not the way forward with the JB-franchise.

I agree. I suffer from motion sickness, and the movie was an agony to watch.

Yah, I loved those fight scenes where all you see are some arms and legs moving and all of a sudden the bad guy is on the ground... [/sarcasm]
Casino Royale was so much better than this garbage.

@ A. Roen,
What made Bond so cool was the lush scenes, hot chicks, his sarcastic style, bad asses villains, home town support (MI5), and COOL GADGETS! Where is that now? Chicks; eh, lush scenes; eh - that's it? The essentials to Bond are lost. He is just your basic thug with a hint of style and class. I wanted to see origins - why does he use the PBK? Why does he drink martinis shaken not stirred - were's Q and all of the cool gadgets? OK, he has the car and a SE phone - big frigging deal! Old conservatives - I don't think so. The rest of your comment - I don't get it but we are nothing that you say - we just miss the Bond we came to love. You really think both of these new installments are that great? You really believe Craig is such a great Bond? He doesn't even fit the look of Bond. However he could be a great Bond given the right script which would include origins, gadgets, chicks and everything that made the originals great but with a modern touch. I desperately wanted to love these movies and move on with a new Bond - it just hasn't happened - face it. You have the originals and all of the foundation laid so these new movies should have been an easy no-brainer instead they FAIL!

I totally agree with your take. The problem is that people are supporting this new Bond. So they keep making the movies thinking that that is what we want. The new Bond is supposed to be modern and more appealing to the female audience. But don't they get it, don't they know that men as well as women love the old Bond (both young and old)? Not everything has to be politically up to date and correct. These two movies are trying to be so different that they totally miss the mark in every respect. Just because Batman gets more edgy and dark it doesn't mean that Bond has to go that way too. Look at the action sequences, to me they just feel like they were trying to save money by playing everything really fast so you don't notice the mistakes or the lack of good action. It's like the martial art copy cat movies, were the people in them can't fight so they shoot everything closed up and move the camera really fast to cover up. This movie was a total waste. Daniel Craig looks really bad in it too. The Bond we know always looked good! They are trying to make him so real, he's no longer Bond, he's just some guy. And Judy Dench is a wonderful actress, but she doesn't convince me as M. Hopefully these two last installments will go the way of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and the Timothy Dalton series, come to think of it, at least those 3 were watchable. They better fix this, this new audience is not the one buying the fancy watches and the cigars or the collectible Walther PPKs.

I had to turn it off after 25 minutes the quick-editing was so ridiculous, confusing and annoying! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who felt this way.

I agree, also the violence in QoS was disgustingly tasteless. Imean I hate watching violence against women , it was disturbing and plain disgusting, I could get that stuff by watching Special Victims Unit on tv. QoS lacked the flavor Casino royale had. SO disapointed. Daniel Craig is the best james bond, but the sequel sucked.

Two things obvious here: you Bozo's have never been in a life or death fight AND never seen one in actuality between 2 trained fighters.
Second thing: I am 62 but you guys are 'old school' for sure and not wanting to let go of these lounge lizards of yesteryear.
